Be Vigilant …

I teach a couple of IT classes each week to an assortment of folks from all walks of life. They are constantly telling me about phone calls that they get from people claiming to work for companies like Microsoft asking them if they can access their computer to fix something. We always tell them to politely say no and hang up and if they phone back to tell them that you are going to phone the police. Another favourite scam is people phoning from the Bank or Building Society asking them to confirm that they are the right person by giving them there card details. Again we tell them to say – I’ll go into the local branch and deal with it there and to hang up. Email phishing as well is at an all-time high. The key with that is not to click on anything in the email but just delete it. Sometimes you can forward it to the fraud department of your Bank or Building Society for investigation. The links in these emails looks legitimate but they are false and transmit your details to criminals. The best thing to do is to delete them. A~

Good Advice …

So I was talking to a friend recently who was telling me that someone accessed a whole bunch of his online accounts. Turns out he was using the same email address and password for them all. It was an accident waiting to happen. The irony is that he works in the industry and knows that it was wrong to do that but he still did it. He said he has a terrible memory for passwords. It made me think around my own accounts and made me double check that I hadn’t done the same. Thankfully I am a bit paranoid when it comes to creating unique password with upper and lower case letters and numbers too. Do remember to do that same before you end up with a mess on your hands like my friend. A~

Hey We Have Arrived …

Well here we are moved into the new hosting service and getting all settled down. All of our websites and services have been migrated and are working seemlessly and the domain names have been consolidated under one roof so to speak. For sure it is a good idea not to be spead too thinly between several hosts but rather to have things together and in bunches just like bananas. 🙂 Then its easy to make changes and updates and makes for an easier life and lets face it, thats what we all want! <== Hopefully I am not overusing the exclaimation mark there. XD More news to follow soon. A~
